Common Types Of Lacquer Paint

- Nitro-Cellulous Lacquer – This is arguably the easiest to apply and still manages to look great. However, as they age, they start yellowing. Additionally, they are soft and cannot withstand moisture. They are therefore not ideal for kitchens and bathrooms due to this nature.
- Water-Based Lacquer Paint – This type has evolved over time, and products painted with water-based lacquer paint have proven to have a nice smooth touch on them when done properly. The trick is in allowing the paint some time to cure after application. Normally, two weeks is ideal for a natural drying of water-based paints. However, you may shorten the curing period by days, if you have a drying machine available. Because this type of paint is water-based, the major advantage is that it is eco-friendly and it poses no health risk when a person is exposed to it.
- Conversion Varnish – Home builders consider this tough stuff, which makes it the best bet for table tops and areas that are prone to easy wear. The major downside is that this one needs very high maintenance. Also, while they are known for their moisture resistance quality, still, their use indoors is highly recommended.
- Acrylic Lacquer Paint – This was developed to mitigate the problem of yellowing that is commonly associated with the nitro-cellulose lacquer as the latter ages. Additionally, you will find that the acrylic resins are crystal-clear and they stay that way for a fairly long time. Acrylic lacquer can be used as a protective overcoat over colored pigment to enhance their durability and appearance.
- Wood Lacquer Paint – This type is the most popular, and has been around since the earlier times. When you have wooden surfaces, look no further. Just apply wood lacquer paint on the surface, and then smoothen it up using sand paper to create a black, shiny luster.
